Maryland requires an agent from the moment SDAT accepts your Articles of Organization, so a founder who was going to file through Bizee anyway gets a genuine obligation covered at no cost. Declining that on principle would be a strange way to save money.

Then the Meter Starts at $149

When that included stretch runs out, the standalone rate takes over at $149 per year. Bizee publishes that number openly, so the criticism here is not about concealment. It is about how free periods behave in practice. A charge that begins at zero never trains an owner to watch for it, and the three-month version of the bundle expires while a new business is still opening bank accounts and chasing its first invoices.

Compare the recurring rates instead, since the agent requirement is permanent and the promotional stretch is not.

The Conversion Date Deserves a Calendar Entry

Here is the Maryland-specific reason to write it down somewhere you will look. Your first Form 1 falls due April 15 of the year following formation, carrying a flat $300 fee, and the filing window opens on January 1. If your free agent months run out anywhere near that stretch, you are being asked to notice two unrelated things during the busiest compliance weeks this state has. Maryland will grant a free 60-day extension to June 15 on the report if you request it online. Nobody extends anything on the agent side. That renewal simply processes.

There is no promotional period on this side to graduate out of, which is the whole design rather than a coincidence. $99 buys twelve months and the next twelve months are also $99. On price, the honest boundary. BetterLegal publishes $90 annually, so cheapest in Maryland is not a title available to us. $99 is simply among the lower published rates in this state, and it is still $99 in year six.
